Bread, Butter, and Power, Addendum 1 is an addendum to Mokgosi's previous chapter in the Democratic Intuition series, titled Bread, Butter, and Power, which was shown in its entirety at the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago in 2019. This chapter examines the ideals and reciprocations of democracy within the experiences of life in southern African nation-states. Bread, Butter, and Power, Addendum 1 complies representations of gendered divisions of labor, depicting the multitude of ways these divisions manifest in daily life. A focus on gender is woven throughout the series, especially as it intersects with issues of class, ethnicity, and education, with the aim of examining the history, meaning, and practice of feminism in the southern African context.
